day 26
So I a very tiny bit cheated here…. But a sleep orgasm doesn’t count, right?? Female orgasms are magical, mystical things. Did you know that 1 in 10 women have orgasmed when working out? More often cycling, or doing ab crunches, something which focuses on related muscle groups. I’ve had friends who have said they managed to reach climax purely from kegel exercises or the bass thrum of music, sat atop a washing machine, sitting on the seat above the wheel on a bus. It can be awkward, hilarious or entirely intentional but I just love the idea that women are casually orgasming all the time, in plain sight. It feels like a way to seize joy and ownership over our bodies when we’re constantly told to be small, be safe, be less. Like a f••• you to the patriarchy in the most glorious way possible.

Which brings us back to sleep orgasms. Apparently only 37% of women are capable of orgasming in their sleep, and I feel goddamn #blessed to be one of them. It’s usually centred around some kind of sex dream, but it doesn’t have to be. And they are waaaay more intense than any I’ve ever experienced when actually conscious. Imagine, if you could short circuit your way to the actual G spot, (the mental one) whilst also being so incredibly relaxed, you’re literally asleep. It’s a perfect storm. It feels like soaring off the edge of a cliff or hurtling down a rollercoaster. It always kind of blows my mind that there’s no physical contact whatsoever, and my mind is powerful enough to just induce one. I always wake up feeling vaguely accomplished, even though I’ve done absolutely nothing to help get me there. Thanks brain.
There’s very little research into this topic, mainly because it’s almost impossible to intentionally induce and therefore test in a lab. ( And ahem due to the horrific inequality in women’s healthcare, but that’s a topic for another post). Nocturnal orgasms, as they’re officially called happen in the REM phase of sleep, when the body is incredibly relaxed, uninhibited and often a time when there is increased blood flow. To be honest, I’ve been expecting it to happen for a while. In normal non 40 days times, if I don’t orgasm for around a week, my body will just gift one to me in a dream, like HEY GIRL, you need this. What are you playing at?? So, for the sake of transparency I thought I should just let you all know. I had a sleep orgasm and I really don’t feel bad about it… if anything, I feel a little, dare we say it... satisfied?!
